Introduction to Botanical Printing

5 October | 10:00 – 14:00

Join Jenney Kelly in The Studio for a relaxed and creative half-day workshop exploring the delicate art of botanical printing, also known as eco printing.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the gardens, you’ll use fresh leaves and seasonal botanicals to transfer organic colours, shapes and textures directly onto silk to create your own one-of-a-kind printed scarf.

This beginner-friendly workshop is thoughtfully guided from start to finish. Jenney will take you through each stage of the process from selecting and arranging botanicals, to preparing your silk, bundling and steaming your fabric to reveal the final design.

Along the way, you’ll discover how natural tannins, plant pigments and heat work together to create soft, organic patterns and often surprising results. No two pieces are ever the same, making each finished scarf a truly personal keepsake of your time at Leonardslee.

All materials are provided, including a silk scarf, seasonal botanicals, tools, gloves and equipment. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available throughout the session.

Once your bundles are prepared, they will be steamed to develop the botanical prints. During this time, you can enjoy afternoon tea in The Clocktower Café before returning to unwrap your bundles and reveal the finished results.

A break for lunch will be taken with afternoon tea (scones with cream and jam, a sandwich, a slice of cake and a tea or coffee per person). Please email info@leonardsleegardens.co.uk if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.

£70 per person | 10% off for Leonardslee Members

About Jenney Kelly

Several years ago, Jenney Kelly rekindled her love of textiles and began creating a range of bags using contemporary and vintage fabrics. This creative journey soon expanded into Indian block printing and botanical printing, leading her to design and print her own textiles.

Through botanical printing, Jenney discovered a fascination with the organic and often unpredictable effects created by leaves, flowers and natural dyes, with each piece revealing its own unique patterns and impressions.

Jenney is a member of Heritage Crafts and has been featured in Country Living and Prima magazines for her block printing, bag making and voluntary textile restoration work for a heritage railway.
