A Mindful Summer Walk Through Leonardslee

With 240 acres of Grade I Listed gardens to explore, no two walks are ever quite the same.

Follow the paths wherever they lead and discover tranquil viewpoints, seasonal wildflowers, remarkable wildlife and moments that stay with you long after your visit.

As
summer brings a joyful beauty to the gardens. Reflections shimmer across the lakes, birdsong echoes through the woodland and evergreen borders brighten the winding paths. Whether you're visiting for an hour or an afternoon, the gardens invite you to wander at your own pace.

Let the Lakes Set the Pace

Walk beside the lakes, where the day seems to unfold at its calmest. Water reflects towering trees, drifting clouds and vibrant summer planting, creating ever-changing scenes.

Before you continue, pause for a moment.

Listen to the chorus of birds hidden amongst the branches. Watch the breeze trace delicate ripples across the surface of the water. Look beneath the reflections and you may spot koi carp gliding effortlessly through the depths, their movements as calm as the landscape around them.

It's the perfect reminder that some of the most memorable moments happen when you simply stop and notice.

Follow the Garden Paths

From the lakes, continue along the winding garden paths as they weave through mature woodland and open into evergreen glades. The canopy softens the summer sun, casting shifting patterns of light across the paths, while ferns, flowering shrubs and towering trees create a landscape that changes with every turn.

Take your time as you wander, breathe in the fresh woodland air and enjoy the changing colours and textures that make each corner of the gardens feel distinct. It's often the smallest details like a butterfly resting on a bloom, sunlight peeking through the leaves or a breathtaking view across the landscape.

Discover Art Along the Way

While the gardens begin to open, you'll discover sculptures thoughtfully placed throughout the landscape. Framed by trees, lakes and evergreen colour, each artwork offers a new perspective on the gardens and invites a moment of reflection.

Pause for a moment and view each sculpture from more than one angle, notice how the light changes across its surface and see how the surrounding landscape becomes part of the artwork itself.

Moments Shared with Wildlife

One of the quiet joys of the gardens is the chance to observe wildlife as you wander. Pause by the wallaby enclosure to watch these much-loved residents grazing beneath the trees or resting in the dappled shade. Along the lakes, herons stand patiently at the water's edge while ducks glide across the surface and butterflies drift between colourful hydrangeas as birdsong echoes through the landscape.

Pause, Reflect and Savour the View

After your walk, settle into the Clocktower Kitchen for a leisurely lunch, homemade cakes or a freshly brewed coffee before continuing your day. If you'd prefer to stay outdoors, choose a quiet bench overlooking the lakes or tucked beneath the trees and simply enjoy the view. As you continue your visit, please help us keep the gardens looking their best by using the bins provided throughout the estate, ensuring this beautiful landscape can be enjoyed by everyone.

Some of the most memorable moments aren't found on the path ahead, but in taking time to linger a little longer, watching the reflections on the water, listening to the birds overhead and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere around you.
