Spring Sounds is a new series of live music events, over ten evenings in May on five stages positioned in the spring woodland estate at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens in West Sussex. It features a mixture of Jazz, Swing, Opera, Classical and Flamenco music from some of the finest performers in the country and around the globe.

Visitors will experience the gardens during their peak flowering season by day and in the evening enjoy performances on stages in the gardens, in front of Leonardslee House and on two floating pontoon stages on the lakes in the heart of the valley.

BERNARDI MUSIC GROUP

FLOATING CLASSICAL STAGE

Bernardi Music Group presents performances on two separate stages:  The Classical Stage floating on Leonardslee Lakes and the Opera Stage in front of Leonardslee House

For the Classical Stage, visitors walk through the spring gardens to hear the forty part motet 'Spem in Alium’ by Thomas Tallis, arranged by Nic Pendlebury for forty electric violas and floating on the beautiful Leonardslee Lakes. In his 150th year, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Lark Ascending‘ can be heard whispering across the Leonardslee lakes, a stone’s throw from where this most popular piece was written in Horsham. The performance closes with Vivaldi’s ever-popular ‘Spring’ and ‘Summer’ from ’The Four Seasons’ performed by Bernardi Music Group.

OPERA STAGE

There are two separate performances over two weeks on the Opera Stage in front of Leonardslee House. In week one,  Lola Ganzarolli sings classics including Puccini’s ‘O mio babbino caro,’ Verdi’s ‘Casta Diva’, Cardillo’s ’Core N’grato and Neapolitan song’ plus Loa’s original songs ‘Prayer’ and ‘You are my sunshine.’ Accompanied by Bernardi Music Group this will bring familiar tunes and some original crossover melodies.

In week two, Instant Opera accompanied by Bernardi Music Group performs Act 3 of Puccini’s La eternal La Bohème. The cast includes India’s finest tenor Anando Mukerjee and principals from Instant’s recently acclaimed production. These specially commissioned performances are set within the estate featuring what are considered to be the world’s finest Rhododendrons species, many now extinct in Asia, but still thriving in the Grade 1 listed gardens.

FLOATING FLAMENCO STAGE

The Flamenco Stage floating on Leonardslee Lakes features multi award-winning Spanish guitar duo De Fuego, playing energetic Flamenco and Rumba.

JAZZ STAGE

The Jazz Stage is located in the main hub of Spring Sounds alongside hospitality tents offering food, local wine, spirits and beers.

Flash Mob Jazz are sure to get the audience jiving and swinging as they perform upbeat jazz renditions of contemporary and classic pop music from Bob Marley to Daft Punk. Plus there is acoustic Swing and Jazz from Harry’s Tricks, featuring the unique vocal and guitar style of Mike Potter who combines the influence of Fats Waller, Al Bowlly, Slim Gaillard and Billie Holiday, among others.
