Winter Nights Come Alive: Leonardslee Lights 2025

There is something about winter evenings in Sussex that calls for a little magic. As the days grow shorter and the woodland turns crisp underfoot, Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens becomes a place of wonder, glowing with artistry, performance, and festive spirit.

From 28 November to 30 December 2025, our Grade I listed gardens near Horsham will host Leonardslee Lights: A Midwinter Light’s Dream. It is not simply a light trail but a full sensory journey, one where stories are told through shimmering trees, glowing creatures, and soundscapes that seem to breathe with the woodland itself.

An Experience for the Senses

As you follow the mile-long trail, the landscape shifts and surprises at every turn. One moment, the air hums with the rhythm of award-winning sound artist Dan Fox’s Glittering Grove, where trees pulse with light like living instruments. At the entrance and as you leave, you may encounter a ThirdSpace performer, cloaked in light and character, setting the scene at the start of your journey and bidding you farewell at the end.

In the branches, lantern owls and wolves by Lantern House cast a magical watch over the trail, turning the woodland into a living storybook. New for 2025, the acclaimed Ithaca Studio debuts an immersive light-and-sound installation. A breathtaking highlight that promises to surprise and delight visitors throughout the season.

Fires, Food & Festive Fun

The illuminated journey draws to a close in Leonardslee Village, a vibrant new gathering place. Here, firelight flickers as marshmallows toast, mulled wine steams in the crisp air, and Christmas music bring a joyful soundtrack to the evening. With indulgent doughnuts served fresh and seating both indoors and out, it is an inviting finale where guests can linger and celebrate.

Shining Responsibly

The brilliance of Leonardslee Lights is matched by its care for the landscape. From LED technology that reduces energy use to staging that preserves habitats, the trail reflects the estate’s long-standing commitment to conservation.

A Calmer Journey

For one evening only on 11 December 2025, the gardens open in a softer, quieter way. With fewer visitors and a more serene atmosphere, this is the perfect chance to experience Leonardslee Lights at a gentler pace.
